Photos from the Flare Boom
November 2nd, 2004 by James

Yesterday I got to go out on the Holstein flare boom again to take some more photographs. The boom is a huge steel tower that hangs off of the side of the platform and is used to burn off any gas that needs to be vented from the system. Since Holstein is still being hooked-up, the flare isn’t “live” yet, so it’s the ONLY chance to get photos. The platform’s Offshore Installation Manager (Mike Goodwin), the Chief Engineer (Steve Burger), and the Maintenance Team lead (Bill Hendricks) all accompanied me out on the boom so that I could take some photos of them with their “baby” in the background…:-)

A special thanks to the Holstein HUC team for putting together the permit to get me out there and make these photos possible.
