Weekend at Lake Travis

July 25th, 2005 by James

Sarah and I spent a WONDERFUL weekend at our new friends’ lakehouse near Barton Creek. We were invited by our new friends Andrea and Kris who we met when we took dance lessons from Dance Houston for our wedding. We met a lot of nice people, swam, relaxed, went boating and water skiing, and drank some great Cuba Libra’s courtesy of Scott, one of Kris’s friends from work. The lakehouse where we stayed was incredibly beautiful and I had a great time photographing its beautiful lines and panoramic view.

Thanks Andrea and Kris for your wonderful hospitality and to everyone for making it such a good time.

Super-Macro at the Flower Gardens

July 22nd, 2005 by James

Last weekend I took a short trip to the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary to fine-tune my macro photography and equipment for an upcoming trip to Bali. Bali is a macro and muck-diving heaven, so I want to make sure I have all our equipment ready. I also wanted to test out my neutral-buoyancy ring that I fabricated for my Seacam housing.

I shot the Sigma 150mm macro lens with a Canon 500D diopter. At close focus, this setup provides roughly 2:1 magnification. Here are a few of my favorite photos:

And here’s a photo of me and my camera setup, taken by Dennis Fanning:
