On Friday evening, Sarah and I had the privelege of photographing the CEO and Directors of famed Houston dance troupe Planet Funk. It was quite an experience! We worked in CEO Shawn Welling’s small lap pool, which was difficult, however we still managed to make some memorable photos for these fine folks. I’ll post a few of my favorites, and then a few of my favorite photos, taken by Sarah. She’ll have to pick her own herself! :-) Click a photo to be taken to the complete gallery.

CEO Shawn Welling

Director Liz

Choreographer Lindsay
And my favorite photos - taken by Sarah

Lindsay, Liz, and Jen and Shawn
We made these photographs using Canon 5D cameras, dual strobes on the housings, and a pair of slaved Ikelite SS400’s sometimes underwater and sometimes above water. Hope you enjoy!

Two weeks ago, I led a digital underwater photography workshop to the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary for the Houston Underwater Photo Society. The trip was a “weekender” leaving Friday eve. and returning Sunday evening, our club had ten spots on the boat. Sarah came along and lent a hand, and she also made some great photos using a rental Canon 5D camera and housing from Reef Photo and Video.
We had overcast skies and rain for most of the weekend, making wideangle photography challenging. However, I persevered (:-) (how corny) and used a 15mm fisheye lens to get close and capture as much blue as I could. The wonderful ISO400 performance of the 5D also came in handy. Sarah used the 17-40mm zoom. For macro, we used 50mm and 150mm lenses.
Here are a few of my favorite shots from the trip. Click a photo to go to the gallery:

Unfortunately, we missed the last dive of the trip because one of the passengers from out of state wasn’t feeling well. It was a shame, because the conditions at Stetson Bank were incredible, with 70+ viz, nice blue water, and very little current. It also didn’t hurt that we saw a manta and a sandbar shark on our last dive there (macro lens attached of course).

I’m just back from my first trip to Equatorial Guinea - and my first trip to Africa for that matter. I visited E.G. for 10 days doing a site visit for my company. We visited sites all over the coast and offshore, but not up in the mountainous interior. E.G. is just south of Cameroon, in West Africa, and is a small country with only 700,000 people. It’s beautiful there, and the people are pretty friendly. Unfortunately, it’s not really a tourist spot, as photography is prohibited by the government, but I did manage to get a few snaps while I was there. Here’s a panorama of the city port at Malabo, with a tug escorting a cargo ship out of harbor.
Malabo is on the island of Bioko, where it rains just about every day. The island is famous for its beautiful waterfalls, and 7000′ volcanic peak.

The jungle is a thick canopy running all the way to the rocky volcanic shore, but pierced here and there by massive Ceiba trees.
